TEACHINGS (a)    This is Sura Al Nas, the last Sura of the Quran.  Allah is the creator of human beings and to test man, Allah has also created Satan. TEACHINGS (a)   The theme of Sura Al Zilzaal is the Day of Judgment which is also the creation of Allah. The purpose of the Day of Judgment is that human beings should correct their attitude in this world acco

And your Lord is most bountiful, 4        He who taught by the pen 5        Taught man what he did not know.                            TEACHINGS (a)              These are the first five Ayaat of Sura Al Alaq revealed in the cave of Hira in 610 and this was the beginning of the prophethood of Mohammad (saw). Sura Al Qadr says: “Indeed We have revealed this (Quran) in the Night of Power”. These Ayat present some important themes. The creation of man starts from an ordinary thing like a clot of congealed blood but in the state of maturity, he becomes a marvel of God. The word 'Iqra', ‘Read’ shows the importance of knowledge in Islam. Allah also reminds hum

(2)      Praise be to Allah, the cherisher and sustainer of the worlds. (3)      Most gracious, most merciful (4)      Master of the Day of Judgment (5)      You we worship and Your aid we seek. Hadith 4

TRANSLATION A man asked the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace): “Do you think that If I perform the obligatory prayers, fast in Ramadan, treat as lawful that which is lawful and treat as forbidden that which is forbidden, and do nothing further, I shall enter paradise?” He said: “yes”.                               TEACHINGS (a)      Five times prayer is obligatory upon Muslims. When a Muslim performs his obligatory prayer, he has done his duty towards Allah. Besides that his other prayers will add reward for him. In the same way, Fasting during the thirty days of Ramadan is obligatory. Besides this all fasting is either optional (Nafil) or compensatory (Qaza). To be careful about lawful and unlawful is not an easy job because Satan attracts us towards sin. This part of Hadith is very comprehensive and covers the entire Muslim life about right and wrong. The prophet (saw) answered the man that he would enter into paradise if he follows only ob

Hadith 3

TRANSLATION Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day either speak good or keep silent, and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his neighbour, and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his guest.               TEACHINGS (a)      This Hadith teaches Muslims three golden principles. First is to prefer silence over gossip. The second is to help neighbours and the third is to be generous to the guests. If we look around, we find that most of the conflicts take place because of our careless use of language. Without thinking, we hurt the feelings of others. As a result, relations break down and sometimes sad events take place. A Muslim is advised to think before he speaks and he should always speak for the good of people. Neighbours are our brothers and sisters. If they have a problem, we should try to solve it. Most of the time neighbours need financial help, therefore we should always be ready to share their joys and so

Hadith 2

TRANSLATION   None of you believes until he wants for his brother what he wants for himself.          TEACHINGS (a)             This Hadith teaches sincerity towards other Muslims. No one likes that others should hurt him, therefore we should not hurt others. For example no one likes that he should be insulted, therefore he should not insult others. This Hadith teaches brotherhood in the Muslim community. Besides that this Hadith also encourages us to financially help people. We enjoy life because Allah has given us prosperity; therefore we should be caring about the other Muslims too. (b)      The Prophet (saw) always applied this teaching in his own life. He never abused or beat anyone and he never used sarcastic language. In his last sermon he said: “Don’t hurt others, so you should not be hurt”. He spent his life in a very simple way. In the battle of Trench, he was also starving like many other Muslims. In a Hadith he says: "Muslims are like a building.

Hadith 1

CIE QUESTION Paper 2  Q 1: Choose any two of the following Hadith, and: (a)  describe their teachings about what Muslims believe   [4] (b)  explain how Muslims can put these teachings into action. [4] HADITH 1 TRANSLATION     ctyuj                                                                                ‘Religion is sincerity’. We said: ‘To whom?’ The Prophet said: ‘To Allah, His Book, His Messenger, the leaders of the Muslims and to their common people.’                    TEACHINGS (a)       This is a very comprehensive Hadith on the responsibilities of a Muslim. Sincerity towards Allah means that we should believe in the oneness of Allah, avoid Shirk and follow His way (Siraat e Mustaqeem). Sincerity towards the holy Quran means to understand the Quran and apply it to our life sincerely. Sincerity towards the Prophet (saw) is to adopt his practices (Sunnah) in our life. Sincerity towards the leaders of the Muslims is to avoid breaking law and order

QURAN PASSAGE 5

PASSAGE 5 SURA AL IKHLAS         SURA 112  TRANSLATION             BISMILLAH ARREHMAN ARRAHIM 1                  Say: He is Allah, the one and only; 2                  Allah the eternal, absolute; 3                  He does not beget, nor is He begotten; 4                  And there is none like Him. TEACHINGS                   (a)                  The theme of this Sura Al Ikhlas is Tauheed. The Prophet (saw) says that it is one third of the Quran. This Sura is an excellent presentation of the idea of Tauheed. Allah asks the Prophet (saw) and the other Muslims to respond in this way when they are asked about the concept of God. Oneness of Allah is presented in four ways in this Sura. One, that Allah is not only one in number but He is unique, second, we cannot compare anything with Allah. Allah is Samad which means that He is independent of all and everyone is dependent on Allah for thei

QURAN PASSAGE 4

PASSAGE 4 SURA AL SHURA 42: 4-5 [J-12][N-13] TRANSLATION   BISMILLAH ARREHMAN ARRAHIM 4        To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth: and He            is the most High, most Great. 5        The heavens are almost rent asunder from above them, and the angels celebrate the praises of their Lord, and pray for forgiveness for beings on earth: Behold! Verily Allah is He, the oft-forgiving, the most Merciful.      TEACHINGS (a)      The theme of this passage is Tauheed. This passage is from Sura Al Shura. Opposite to the idea of Tauheed is Shirk or making partners with Allah which is the worst sin of all. In Ayat 4, Allah says that that everything in the universe belongs to Him. He is the creator and everything will go back to Him. “His are all things in the heavens and on earth”. (Ayat ul Kursi) Another theme presented here is that angels love human beings and for our sins, they pray Allah to forgive them. Allah is most merciful towards u

QURAN PASSAGE 3

PASSAGE 3   SURA AL FUSSILAT  41: 37  TRANSLATION   BISMILLAH ARREHMAN ARRAHIM          Among His signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Adore not the sun and the moon, but adore Allah, who created them. If it is Him you wish to serve.           TEACHINGS (a)             The theme of this passage is Tauheed and it is from Sura Al Fussilat. This Ayat presents the fundamental theme of the Quran that is 'Tauheed'. Tauheed is to make a commitment that besides the way of Allah, we will not follow any other way. This Ayat presents some other themes concerning Tauheed.  No one can see Allah but the signs of Allah are everywhere in nature. The universe, our body and other natural phenomena indicate that there is some power which has created them. Therefore instead of worshipping the sun and the moon and the other objects, human beings should worship the creator that is Allah. This is arrogance that the fact comes to us and we deny it.  “Tha
