QURAN PASSAGE 5

PASSAGE 5 SURA AL IKHLAS         SURA 112
TRANSLATION
BISMILLAH ARREHMAN ARRAHIM
1                 Say: He is Allah, the one and only;
2                 Allah the eternal, absolute;
3                 He does not beget, nor is He begotten;
4                 And there is none like Him.

TEACHINGS
(a)                 The theme of this Sura Al Ikhlas is Tauheed. The Prophet (saw) says that it is one third of the Quran. This Sura is an excellent presentation of the idea of Tauheed. Allah asks the Prophet (saw) and
the other Muslims to respond in this way when they are asked about the concept of God. Oneness of Allah is presented in four ways in this Sura. One, that Allah is not only one in number but He is unique, second, we cannot compare anything with Allah. Allah is Samad which means that He is independent of all and everyone is dependent on Allah for their survival. Third that Allah does not have any family. He is not the ascendant or descendant of anyone.
“How can He have a son when He has no consort”? (Al Anaam 101)
There is no comparison of Allah with anyone.

(b)                 This Sura teaches us many lessons. The word “Qul” or say is used not only for Mohammad (saw) but it is the responsibility of every Muslim to give the message of Tauheed to the other people. The word ‘Samad’ teaches us that only Allah can help us in every matter.
“You we worship and Your aid we seek”.        [Al Fatiha]
We also learn that we must not commit shirk in any possible way. Shirk is a major crime in the sight of Allah and we must avoid it.
“Indeed whosoever commits Shirk, Paradise will be forbidden for him and his destination is Hell and cruel will find no help”.(Al Maida-72)
