THEME 1

ALLAH IN HIMSELF OR TAUHEED
PASSAGE 1 AYAT UL KURSI           2:255

TRANSLATION             BISMILLAH ARREHMAN ARRAHIM
Allah, there is no god but He, the living, the self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permits? He knows what is before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass any of His knowledge except as He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the most High, the Supreme.

TEACHINGS
(a)      The main theme of this passage is Tauheed or oneness of Allah. A Hadith says that Ayat ul Kursi is the best Ayat of the Quran. It summarizes the attributes of Allah. Oneness of Allah or Tauheed is the fundamental of Islamic faith. It means that Allah is the one who gives us life, death and sustenance. Allah is beyond human weaknesses like sleeping, slumbering and getting tired. Allah is beyond our imagination and comprehension. No one can influence the decisions of Allah, unless He himself permits this. His power controls every matter. Sura Al Ikhlas says:
“Say: He is Allah, the one and only. Allah the Eternal, Absolute. He does not beget, nor is He begotten. And there is none like Him”.

(b)      Tauheed is the main idea of this passage. It is obligatory upon a Muslim to believe in one Allah and His attributes. Tauheed gives us a lot of benefits. It takes us out of the slavery of created things. We ask help only from Allah, and we only depend on Allah in every matter of life. “ You we worship and Your aid we seek”.          [Al Fatihah]
Belief in Tauheed also makes us brave as we believe that nothing can hurt us without the approval of Allah. It teaches us not only to learn humanity but also to love animals and plants as they are also the creation of Allah. Belief in Tauheed saves us from committing shirk.
