Books of Allah contain the messages which Allah gave to humanity through his prophets. The purpose was to provide guidance to human beings so that they should not be having any argument on the Day of Judgment that they did not receive guidance from Allah. It is generally believed that it was angel Jibreel who brought all the Books to the prophets.

We learn from the Quran about the scriptures and Books given to:
Scriptures to Ibrahim (as)
Tauraat or Torah to Musa (as)
Zuboor or psalm to Dawood (as)
Injeel or Gospel to Essa (as)
The final Book, the Quran, was given to Mohammad (saw).

It is possible that more written instructions were given to the other prophets but we do not find their names in Quran.

All the Books of Allah contain the same message that a person is to believe in the unity of Allah and avoid Shirk and to believe that all humans are answerable to Allah on the Day of Judgment. A Muslim must believe in all the Prophets and Prophet Mohammad (sw) as the last prophet of Allah.

The holy Quran proves that Salat or prayers, Saum or fasting and Zakaat or alms-giving was obligatory upon all nations. However the method might be different. The basic human rights and respect was also the same. For example respect of parents and other human beings was a common teaching. Lawful and unlawful (halaal and haraam) was also common. Drinking wine, eating swine, gambling, taking interest or Riba and crimes against humanity like murder were unlawful according to the teachings of all the books.

Scriptures of Ibrahim (as) and the other scriptures were given to the prophets of their nations. Toraat, Zuboor and Injeel were sent to Bani Israeel who were the descendants of Ibrahim and Ishaaq (as). We also believe that Injeel that was given to Essa (as) was following the law (Shariah) given by Toraat that was given to Musa (as).

The holy Quran is the most authentic Book of Allah. The other Books have either been changed or amended by human beings. Quran was preserved within one year of the death of the Prophet (saw). It is the original word of God in living Arabic language. The language of the Quran is of a level that it is impossible to translate Quran in its exact sense. Quran addresses and presents solutions to all problems for the entire humanity. Its teachings are applicable to every period of time.
“This is a glorious Quran, in a Tablet preserved” (Al Buruj)
"We have revealed this (Quran) and We will preserve it". (The Quran)

Our beloved prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “Whoever reads one letter from the Book of Allah will earn one reward thereby. One reward is equal to ten rewards the like of it. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Meem is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Meem is a letter.” [Tirmidhi]
