Caliphate of Abu Bakr (ra)    632-634 AC ; 11-13 AH

Note   While answering this question, please do not write about his services during Prophet’s lifetime

 

After the death of the Prophet (saw), Abu Bakr (ra) advised Muslims in many matters.

1.      He made the Muslims believe that the Prophet (saw) had passed away when he recited an Ayat from Sura Al Ahzaab.

Ø  When the Prophet passed away, he was out of city but quite close

Ø  Given the news; came back immediately

Ø  Found everyone in shock

Ø  Went to prophet’s room

Ø  Omar (ra) was not ready to believe prophet (saw) had died

Ø  Abu bakr said: If you worshipped Mohammad (saw), listen, he has died like other human beings but if you worship Allah, he is alive.

Ø  He recited an ayat of Sura Al Ahzaab: If the Prophet dies or killed, will you turn away from religion?

Ø  This made everyone realize that Prophet’s death is a reality.

 

2.      He determined the place of burial of the Prophet (saw) when he told a Hadith.

Ø  Conflict where to bury the Prophet; Makkah, Jannat ul Baqi?

Ø  Abu bakr (ra) presented Hadith by which prophets are buried where they die

Ø  Prophet died in the room of Aisha (ra), therefore he was buried there.

 

3.      He convinced Ansaars that the caliph should be from Muhajreen and the Quresh and saved a civil war.

Ø  Ansars gathered in a house when the Prophet was not buried yet

Ø  They decided next caliph is to be from Ansar

Ø  Abu Babr along with other Quresh companions came to that place

Ø  Delivered an impressive speech

Ø  Convinced Ansars caliph must be from Quresh

Ø  On the same occasion, Omar seconded the name of abu Bakr as caliph

Ø  He was elected by the present gathering

Ø  The rest of the city approved him as caliph
