QAZA AND QADR

God's Predestination and Decree—Qaza and Qadr

Q         Write short accounts of Muslim belief about God’s Predestination and Decree. [4-J-05]5-specimen paper 09]
Q         What does the statement ‘There is no ability or power except through Allah’ tell you about Muslim belief in Allah’s predestination and decree? [10-J-11]

Meaning and significance
Predestination is Qadr which is derived from the word Qadir, which is an attribute of Allah meaning all powerful. Allah is the creator of everything and He is the also the creator of human beings.
“To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the on earth and He is
   most High, most Great”.   [42:4]

Allah knows it very well what is good for us and what is bad. He has complete control over His creation. However, Allah has given us a choice of selecting right (Halaal) or selecting wrong (Haraam) and for this, He has provided us guidance in His Book Quran and in the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammad (saw). The purpose of this choic is to judge man's intentions. It is not because Allah is helpless and He cannot stop us commiting wrong. On the basis of this choice, Paradise and Hell will be awarded.

Therefore Allah will reward us of our good deeds and may punish us for our bad deeds.
This is because of our own choice of good and evil. For this reason, suicide is unlawful or Haraam because the one who commits suicide decides to kill himself though death comes only with the commandment of Allah.
“Then whoever has done an atom’s weight of good shall see it and
whoever has done an atom’s weight of evil shall see it” (Al Zilzaal).

Human beings are responsible to put in their efforts in this life. They should use their resources, mind and labour in order to achieve their targets but they should leave the results to Allah.
