2. The history and importance of the Qur’an

 

The  revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet (pbuh) between the years 610 and 632

 

First Revelation in Cave of Hira

Q         Give an account of the Prophet’s first experience of receiving revelation.   [10-N-04]

Q         Give a brief description of Muhammad’s call to be Prophet.                           [8-J-99]

Q          Give an account of how the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet (sw). [10-J-14-2058/11]

 

·        Prophet’s character

·        Age 40 year 610 and signs like dreams coming true

·        Spending time in the Cave of Hira

·        Meeting with Jibrael (as)---hugged him three times---asked to read---Prophet’s answer

o   Read! In the name of your Lord who created,

o   Created man out of a clot of congealed blood:

o   Proclaim! And your Lord is most bountiful,

o   He who taught by the pen

o   Taught man what he did not know.

·          Prophet came back

·          How Khadija (ra) dealt---frightened---Khadidija pacified him---asked her to cover him

·          Words of Khadija (ra) “Never, by Allah! Allah will never disgrace you. You keep good relation with your kith and kin,  

  help the poor, serve your guests and assist those who are in problems”.

 

·          Warqa bin Naufal---confirmation of his Prophethood---prediction: he will be expelled from Makkah

The Revelation of Quran to the Prophet (saw) between 610-632 Q         Write an account of the ways in which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet (saw) between the years 610 and 632.                                           [10-N-09] In 610, the holy prophet (saw) was forty years old when the first revelation of Sura Al Alaq was brought to him by Jibreel (as) in the cave of Hira. Soon, he started receiving more revelations. For the first three years he preached those who were close to him.
